World rubber
consumption is expected to
increase by about 4.0% annually
to about 26.5 million metric
tonnes in 2011. The US, China
and Japan dominate the global
rubber consumption and will
continue to do so, collectively
accounting for more than half of
the market in 2011.
With an increase
of about 6% during 2008-09 the
total production in India would
touch about 889,000 tonnes.
However, the consumption
increased by about 5% to nearly
860, 000 tonnes during 2007-08,
as against 820, 000 tonnes
achieved during 2006-7. The
projection relating to
production of natural rubber
during the current fiscal is
estimated to be 875, 000 tonnes,
while the consumption is
estimated to be at 899, 000
tonnes in 2008-09.
Kerala, a state
of Union of India accounts for
90% of total production of
rubber in India.
