Demand of major thermoplastics [HD/LL/LD/PET/PS/ABS/PC/PP/PVC] was at about 195 million tonnes globally in 2008. Combined global demand for PE, PP and PVC was estimated at about 155 million tonnes during 2008, growing at about 5.5%.

Aggregate consumption of PE, PP and PVC in India crossed 5 million tonnes in 2007-2008 registering an impressive growth of about 15%.

Polymers have a wide range of applications and each of the categories like PET, HDPE, LDPE, PP, PS and others are used in the following applications:

  • Bottles for soft drinks and other beverages

  • Containers for milk and other beverages, squeeze bottles

  • Bottles for cleaning materials, some shampoo bottles

  • Plastic bags and some plastic wraps

  • Automobile parts, windshields for fighter planes
